Hey guys, my name is Ben and I am currently living in China. I make videos about learning languages and traveling, and what it is like to be an English teacher abroad.
That apartment looks clean. What city are you in? I remember last time you mentioned you were in Shangrao. Good luck with the job , dude. Its my dream to visit China one of these days
Still in Shangrao, this is the apartment my girlfriend bought. Yeah come on over, the salaries have gone down and there seems to be some uncertainty about the future of teaching here, but still a great opportunity
These HSK6 Standard Course textbooks are quite vocabulary focused, and you encounter an increasing amount of domain-specific vocab. I generally prefer to study vocabulary on my own before class, when I have a plethora of resources I can consult (Chinese-Chinese dictionaries, ChatGPT, databases, etc.). In any case, good luck figuring it out.
Hey Ben, interesting video. What methods and platforms are you mainly using to learn Japanese? Any specific techniques you have for learning multiple languages at once?
Hey Jalen how are you? I hope you're doing well. My preferred method for learning is doing Pimsleur and layering it with another resource. Pimsleur has got me speaking languages very fast, I then use the languagepod101 series to create custom audio lesson by recording my microphone and computer audio at the same time. A lot of libraries have the CDs and then you can rip them and practice the audio even after returning them. My goal is usually to be able to speak as fast as possible, so I also will use Memrise as well for this. But recently I've been trying to do more lessons and seeing if that will help as well Honestly if I don't know a word, I just use Google translate as if I was in the country and needed to say something
Hey sorry I don't really like to give out personal information like this on the internet to strangers, I kinda just do these vlogs to practice my oral Mandarin
I'm Vietnamese, I saw the RUclips video you watched on video, she spoke with a Southern accent, our country has three regions: North, Central, South. in which the Northern pronunciation, specifically the Hanoi accent, is relatively standard (for us). Or maybe you like learning Southern pronunciation, Or maybe you like to learn Southern pronunciation, no problem, if you communicate with Vietnamese people in other regions, they will still understand..😀Your pronunciation, in my opinion, is quite good.
I think a lot of Chinese people have only seen black people and foreigners on TV or in textbooks. Perhaps those who "chicken out" of racism when they see black people in person realize they need to rethink things (à la the contact hypothesis).
Yes I would say so as well, most comes from pure ignorance, however my main issue is that it's not talked about but simply if a foreigner especially black, does anything wrong in China or makes the slightest hint towards anyone Chinese, it blows up online. I mean people were calling some random foreigner getting ice cream and some Chinese didn't get any racism, or like some foreigner tying his shoes with his foot on the bench makes it to the news. Meanwhile on the Chinese web, people literally get death threats for dating people of darker skin, or people just say the worst things everyday and no one talks about it. Even independent, less political and more cultural news like this Radi Media news.
@@BenJones1127 that's so cool man. I went to Thailand for the first time during the May 1st holiday and stayed for 7 days. I'm going back again at the end of this month. 7 days was not long enough. It's a pretty amazing place. Especially when you get outside Bangkok and see the country side.
It's hard to say, I wouldn't say you would be hated, it's more so just not understood. The main haters are single men that think all Chinese women love black men, and will talk shit online.
I recently found your channel and I really enjoy watching your Thai practice clips. I’m also learning Thai so it’s handy to see someone else’s study sessions. ขอบคุณครับ สู้ๆ นะครับ
How are you spot checking your pronunciation? Sometimes I think I sound right, but when I try to speak native speakers have a hard time understanding me. Are you reviewing your videos? Or have you taken pronunciation lessons?
The microphone allows me to hear myself in real time so I can mimick the pronunciation, other than that I just have lessons all in Thai with my teacher. I don't allow them to use any English, so if they tell me they can't understand, then I know my pronunciation has an issue
Wow you're so talented! I've been wanting to learn Korean but im currently studying German so im waiting to finish learning German before moving on to Korean bc I don't want to get confused while studying 2 languages at the same time. Even though you may not get many views, its good that you document this. Love your determination to keep learning! Keep it up man!
I was thinking that too, in the end I put a 小米 phone, because Sony and Cannon cameras are expensive but also require other accessories in order to vlog. Some cameras are heavy and not too convienent to carry around, also they are pretty fragile and easy to break. So for now I will do the best I can using my phone, and then probably get a better camera later.
As we all know, leaning Chinese is not a easy thing! But I think you did it!Your Chinese speaking better than 80% foreigners! And I very like your vlogs! Keep it continuing!
I definitely am trying the best I can, the resources for learning Mandarin aren't actually that great, so now I plan on practicing using the IELTS and just translate it into Mandarin
@@BenJones1127 yeah times park also have a shop, actually in WANLI Mall,if you don’t mind we can make a friend😊 do you have WeChat or WhatsApp or something?
Thanks for sharing your story. Given your knowledge of who is hiring where, do you recommend tier 1 cities for new teachers?
What program is this?
Very interesting to see the way you study. Why do you study so many languages at once? I am already struggling with only Chinese.

Great Work. I hope to start HSK6 next month. If you want to connect and practice, let me know.

I'd say I only speak Chinese, Thai, and Russian, but I'm learning many more haha
Hey man, I am also studying but I don't have teachers. Where do you find your teachers and how much do you pay per lesson? Thanks for your reply.
italki.com, I use it for all the languages I'm learning
@@BenJones1127 Oh, ok I have heard of that website. I will check it out. Thanks for your quick reply.

有的HSK3.0课本不久前问世了:《国际中文教育中文水平等级标准·词汇速记速练手册》等,包括7~9级。注意,词汇多得多。
I see you have online classes with Thai and Korean. Is that on platform or your private teacher ? Thanks

Yo, keep up the good work! 👍 This inspires me to learn a new language!
Thanks for sharing your study sessions. Please could I ask where you found the Patee book pdf? Thanks in advance
You just Google Pasaa Patee in Thai
It should come up, it's pretty accessible
